Team India registered their first win against Pakistan in the Asia Cup since 1988.

With Sehwag and Raina on fire, India cruised to 301 for four in only 42. 1 overs after Pakistan appeared to have set a competitive target by making 299 for four.
Despite putting up a huge total for the visitors to chase, Pakistan failed to restrict the Men in Blue as Suresh Raina and Virender Sehwag played blistering strokes to beat the archrivals. Malik didn't field after retiring with cramps while pacer Umar Gul also went off with a rib cage injury after sending down just 1.
Malik then got retired hurt and then Pakistan any how managed to make 299 runs in their allotted 50 overs.

India win over Hong Kong in Asia cup by 256 runs

Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Suresh Raina hit centuries and led India to a 256-run victory against inexperienced Hong Kong in the Asia Cup on Wednesday. Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat as the Indian batsmen made a mockery of hapless Hong Kong bowling attack to make a mammoth 374 for four, the highest Asia Cup total. In reply, the Hong Kong batsmen crumbled to meagre 118 runs in the 36. 5 overs. Dhoni then featured in three stumpings behind the wickets off legspinner Piyush Chawlam, who took 4-23. "You have to be ruthless if you are contesting in international cricket no matter against which team you playing," Dhoni said. Left-arm paceman R P Singh drew the first blood in his very first over, trapping Skhawat Ali for a nought, to begin the rot. Dar and Atkinson then put up a 45-run stand for the second-wicket but once the skipper was dismissed, Hong Kong batsmen lacked confidence in negotiating the Indian attack. Rohit Sharma, coming after Sehwag’s dismissal, was the only Indian batsman to fall cheaply when he was run out by Nadeem Ahmmed on 11. Rohit’s departure brought Raina, whose blitzkrieg 101 off 68 balls is the second fastest hundred by an Indian. Sehwag then closed the Hong Kong innings with two wickets on successive deliveries as he first clean bowled Afzaal Haider and then had Nadeem Ahmed caught behind the wickets, giving Dhoni his fourth victim of the innings. Irfan Ahmed's effort of 23 runs off 43 balls was the best individual score for Hong Kong, whose bowlers struggled to contain India's strong lineup. Raina spearheaded the batting blitz with his scintillating 101-run knock and teamed up with Dhoni (unbeaten 109) to put on 166 from 123 balls, which saw India set the highest total in Asia Cup history. Raina's first hundred included seven fours and five sixes. Raina was extremely harsh on pacer Skhawat Ali who went for three sixes in one over. Sehwag hit 13 fours and two sixes. Dhoni touched the three-figure mark after consuming balls and helped himself with with six sixes and five fours to anchor the innings. India with their strong performance also warmed up in spectacular fashion for their important clash against traditional rivals, Pakistan. The Hong Kong spinners who had done an admirable job against Pakistan in their first match never recovered from an early blitz from openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir. The duo put on 127 for the first wicket and plundered runs at will, scoring 95 in first 10 overs. .

India's first match agaist Hong Kong in Asia cup

India launch their campaign in the Asia Cup cricket tournament against minnows Hong Kong on Wednesday hoping to get into top form ahead of their crucial tie against arch-rival Pakistan on Thursday.
Irfan Pathan will be rested because he appears to be carrying a side-strain into the tournament. The Indians will go into the game without the services of paceman Irfan Pathan who will be rested because of a side strain. But the Indians have enough bowling resources at their disposal to counter Hong Kong.
Nadeem Ahmed, a Pakistan born spinner was superb for the Hong Kong team. "I am looking for some big contributions from my players in the match. Fortunately, India does have a bench strength in this department and it would be a good idea to test this out in games against the likes of Hong Kong!
Unfortunately, the team only has M. Eye will be on these youngsters. Dhoni as wicketkeeper. Here are some links: I will post sopcast, TVu and other links just about 2 hours before the match . . "I am happy with the team combination. I feel it is a good opportunity for the aspiring youngsters in such a big tournament. All pre-match indications are that that would indeed be the case. My team for the Hong Kong match would, therefore, be: V Sehwag G Gambhir SK Raina RG Sharma Yuvraj Singh (captain) RV Uthappa (’keeper) YK Pathan PP Chawla P Kumar M Gony RP Singh 12th man: PP Ojha This will give Irfan Pathan, Ishant Sharma and M. Dhoni, however, indicated that he would come up in the batting order to keep the momentum during the middle overs of the innings. Dhoni a rest. . The Hong Kong coach Aftab Habib, however, insisted his team which has a combination of senior and juniors, would not go down without a fight against their strong opponents. . . . Batsmen like Ashish Gadhia and James Atkinson can well change the calculation of the Indians if taken lightly. . . . . .

Injury make Farveez Maharoof out of asia cup

An initial scan failed to reveal the injury, but a second scan showed that he had strained the muscles on the left sight of his abdomen.
It will be a bitter blow to the 23 year old who was ruled out of Sri Lankas recent tour to the West Indies, also due to a muscle strain.
Maharoof was able to recover in time to represent the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL, but has now again been struck down by injury.

ICC backs Pakistan to stage successful tournament

LAHORE, Pakistan (AFP) — Pakistan was given a vote of confidence Tuesday by international cricket bosses as it gears up to host the Champions Trophy later this year.
International Cricket Council (ICC) president Ray Mali said he was confident Pakistan would put on a good tournament as the country had experience of running such events in the past. The tournament, from September 11-28, involves all the major cricketing powers -- Australia, South Africa, India, England, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and the West Indies.
Pakistan also host the six-nation Asia Cup involving defending champions Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates from June 24 to July 6. Mali, who arrived with other ICC officials for Wednesday's launch of the biennial Champions Trophy, said: "The Asia Cup will give Pakistan an opportunity to rehearse for the Champions Trophy. " Mali and other ICC officials held talks with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over preparations for the event. PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf gave assurances on security. "The ICC is launching the event in Lahore on Wednesday and that is an ample proof that there are no problems. We have made foolproof security arrangements for the event," said Ashraf.
It will be the first time that Pakistan has staged a major sporting event since hosting a quadrangular tournament in 1997. Pakistan also hosted some matches of the 1996 World Cup with India and Sri Lanka. Australia put off their March-April tour to the trouble-hit country this year over security fears. .

Sreesanth Out Of Asia Cup Due To Injury

NEW DELHI: Pacer S Sreesanth was on Tuesday ruled out of the Asia Cup later this month as he has not fully recovered from the left external oblique injury sustained during the Indian Premier League. Sreesanth, who missed the Bangladesh tri-series and was in doubt for the Asia Cup to be held in Pakistan from June 24, was found unfit for the tournament beginning on June 24 and has been advised two weeks rest. He was declared unfit for the tournament by Paul Close, the physio at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. His bowling rehabilitation programme will start on June 23 and he requires further two weeks of rehabilitation before full recovery," BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah said in a release. Sreesanth, playing for Kings XI Punjab in the IPL had strained his left side in the last league game against the Rajasthan Royals at Mohali on May 28. .

Shoaib Malik fined for slow over-rate during the second match of the tri-series against India

Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee for a . International Cricket Council match referee Jeff Crowe found Malik and his team to have been two overs short of the target when time allowances were taken into consideration. Pakistan’s players were each fined 10 per cent of their match fees, 5 per cent for every over, while the captain was fined doubled in accordance with ICC rules. "Although there was a rain interruption late in the innings, which always makes it difficult to keep the overs flowing, Pakistan only bowled 13 overs by the first drinks break and never managed to recover that deficit," said Crowe of his decision. Pakistan’s bowlers were guilty of bowling as many as 15 wides and three no-balls, which contributed to the slow over-rate. India beat Pakistan by 140 runs, but both teams will progress to Saturday's final should India beat Bangladesh on Thursday. .
